“Beautiful Boy” is a biographical  film about a young boy named Nic Sheff (played by Timothée Chalamet)  who seemingly has everything: an easy path in college, good friends, and a supportive family, but slowly everything starts to fall apart due to his addiction to methamphetamine. In the movie, his relationship with his father, David Sheff (played by Steve Carell) is especially strained. “Beautiful Boy”  shows the harsh time that Nic had to go through while his addiction caused him to run away from home to find himself, and how a father’s love will go beyond anything just to find and reconnect with his son. The movie is based on a novel Nic Sheff wrote in 2008.

“The world was really abrasive and overwhelming and I really felt hopeless” Nic said in an interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” back in 2008. “When I started drinking [alcohol],I couldn’t stop…the first time I did a line of crystal, it was like my whole world changed. I just felt confident and strong like I could do anything. I felt like a rock star. It was like everything I’d been missing my whole life, and I wanted to hold on to that feeling because it was exactly what I needed.” Later on Nic Sheff said to Oprah that he found his purpose in life and that “ I feel that’s my mission every day to be honest and open and vulnerable and raw”.

“ ‘Beautiful Boy’ is  an inspiring movie showing that no matter how hard the situation is, there are always people there for you that are willing to help you and it doesn’t matter what the situation is about that  people who love you will fight with you to face the obstacles,” said Paula Pizano a sophomore at Round Lake High School who saw the film.
