Round Lake High School’s track team just completed its first conference meet of the season at UW Parkside in Wisconsin. Even though it was not the very first meet, the team is still very fresh into the season. This was a big meet as the team was going up against all of our conference schools. Many personal records (PRs) were met and some were not. Luckily there is still much more time this season to improve.

Our tack team has been working it’s hardest practicing everyday after school, on days off and some members have even been practicing out of school on their own time since January. Many team members have goals to improve from last year—working for a better time or longer distance. Some team members are even engaging in a little friendly competition with each other.

There are many categories involved in track and field events, with many notable outcomes at the UW Parkside meet. For throwers specifically, Senior Ethan Gomez gained a personal record by throwing a 38’6 and ending in ninth place overall for shot put.

We had some outstanding runners for the 4×200 relay with seniors Luis Anzo, Davon Horton, Justin Langwinski, and Ernesto Vargas. They placed fourth overall in this category, achieving our highest placing for any category. Some girls who did an amazing job were Evie Johnson, a junior, who jumped in the long jump and achieved sixth place with a jump of 14’6”, with Adra Pop, a senior, right behind her with a jump of 14’5” making that her new PR.

With only this being the team’s second meet of the season, but their first coed they did very well. Conference this early in the season is not easy, because many team members have not had a chance to practice as much, as they just came from winter sports.

Show your support, don’t forget to go to the meet at the next home game March 21. Although it is cold, we should try to make it because they need our support. There are many more track meets scheduled for April and May, as well, so come show your Panther pride!
