Holiday seasons- although fun- are often a time of stress. Festivities can become overwhelming when there is so much going on. Here at Round Lake High School, the holiday season is not taken lightly. However, between all the homework, stress of finals, and familial fun to keep track of, many people find staying jolly a real challenge. According to pewresearch.org , a national resource for statistics, over a quarter of all Americans feel stressed out during the holidays, which is a shame because no one should let their worry about the season prevent them from actually enjoying the season, especially with so many exciting events coming up in the next few weeks, and even more so when going out and having fun with friends and family can lower the stress itself. So, to help organize everyone’s schedules and keep stress levels at a minimum, here is the rundown of all the festivities going on through our school during the next two months:

A New Time To Dance and Be Merry

This year, for the first time ever, RLHS will be having a Winter Formal. The “Winter Wonderland”-themed dance will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, from 7-10.

Just Like Homecoming, students will celebrate the lead up to the dance with a spirit week, so be sure to check some closets and make sure you’re ready to participate. Monday will be pajama day. Tuesday will be holiday headgear day, so feel free to wear a Santa hat or winter hat or anything else holiday related. Wednesday will be destination day, where you rep your favorite vacation spot by wearing whatever you would wear as if you were at that spot. Thursday is ugly sweater day, and Friday is spirit day.

Karina Sanchez, a sophomore member of student council expressed her excitement over preparing for the dance. “The winter formal is going to be so fun,” she said. “I’m excited because everyone will be in the spirit. We are incredibly pumped for the decorations and people’s reactions when they walk into the dance.”

Club Celebrations

This season, French Club will be doing a fun clay craft Dec. 5. Members of the club will be making “Santons,” which are tiny clay people for nativity scenes. Santons became popular during the French Revolution, even though they were outlawed for a period of time. They are still very popular in France today. The following week, French club will be showing Le journal d’Aurélie Laflamme Dec. 12.  The movie features the story of a young girl who struggles to accept the reality of her father’s death, and instead chooses to believe she and her father are aliens, yet he had to return to his home planet. This family film will touch your heart this holiday season and all students are welcome to the viewing, even if you aren’t in French Club

This month, SOMOS, the new club for empowering young latinx in our community, will be partnering with the Black Student Association, and having Latin dance lessons Nov. 10. Along with that, SOMOS will be having a childhood throwback by writing letters to Santa! Come make your lists for St. Nick on Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 after school in the M hall.

Entertainment Galore

The annual winter spectacular is back. This two-night show compiles mainly musical acts from RLHS’s many bands and choirs, along with silly skits, and color guard routines.

During practice for the Winter Spectacular, kids show their festive excitement by wearing ugly sweaters.

The show, which takes place in the theater, is fast paced and always manages to be one of the most popular events to the season, so be sure to get there early.  Emily Luna, a junior, who is new to choir this year has said, “I’m excited to be a part of this experience. A lot of work is going into this and that ought to render an awesome performance”

There are two showtimes for this entertainment extravaganza, Friday, Dec. 8 at 7pm, and Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but since space is limited, the music program is strongly urging everyone to buy their tickets online ahead of time.

Instructions for ticket purchase will be up on http://www.roundlakemusic.com/ as soon as they are available. “[Last year, the Winter Spectacular] had standing room only at the first concert, and even though we
had a blizzard for the second night, it was still almost full, so it seems like the community is really behind it,” said choir teacher Mr. Robert Olson.

Overall, this season should be a blast with all the fun events going on in our school, and now you have a guide to some of the most exciting things to look forward to this season.
