Spring Break Binge

Spring break is coming, and you’ve earned the right to spend a few days on the couch mindlessly watching TV. Everyone is looking for something to do on their down time and Netflix is a great time killer! For students who want to unwind, The Blaize staff has rounded up some binge-worthy TV shows for your enjoyment. If you like crazy comedies, teen dramas, or fantasies you should check out any of the shows listed below on Netflix over spring break.

  • “Shameless”: Directors John Wells, Emmy Rossum, and Mark Mylod created “Shameless” in 2011. Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy), a single father of six children spends his days drunk. His kids learn to take care of themselves and support each other. They learn that family needs to stick together and overcome all problems.
  • “The Fosters”: Peter Paige and Brad Bredeweg started The TV series “The Fosters” in 2013. Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena (Sherri Saum), a couple living in San Diego, Calif., are mothers to three teenagers. Brandon (David Lambert), is Stef’s biological son from a previous marriage. Jesus (played by Noah Centineo and Jake T. Austin after Centineo left the series), and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) are twins the couple took in and adopted when they were young. Everything was going great until Lena brought home Callie (Maia Michell), a troubled young foster girl who has been in the system for seven years, and her younger brother Jude (Hayden Byerly), who is struggling to find himself. The two turn the family’s world upside down when they come into the picture.
  • “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”: Based on the hit book series by Cassandra Clare,this fantasy show is produced by Ed Dexter and is about how Claire Fairchild (Katherine McNamara) is turning 18. But this birthday she’s given a surprise. She finds out that her mother has been lying to her all her life and she’s a Shadowhunter, a magical warrior that protects humans from the underworld of vampires, werewolves and warlocks. She is made to leave her life behind and do what she born for. With the help of Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood), brother and sister Alec and Isabelle Lightwood (Matthew Daddario and Emeraude Toubia), Claire finds out about the life her mother wanted to hide. This teen drama is filled with relationships that will surprise you and a plot that isn’t like the books. The mystic world of Shadowhunters is filled with secrets, tragic pasts and demons. If you like shows “The Vampire Diaries” or “Supernatural,” then “Shadowhunter is for you.
  • “Timeless”: This show premiered Oct. 3 2016 and you can watch all of the first season on Netflix. Created by Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan, viewers find themselves amazed by world history. This adventure-filled show stars Abigail Spencer as Lucy Preston, a history professor who helps the world from a criminal named Garcia Flynn(Goran Višnjić) who wants to change the past. With help of soldier Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter) and scientist Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett), they go back in time on a prototype time machine to stop Flynn. They are put through many problems as history gets in the way of their knowledge. If you’ve been a fan of the show “Heroes” or “Travelers,” then you’ll love”Timeless.”


With these shows anyone can stay entertained over spring break. You deserve a rest, so sit down on a couch and binge watch “Shameless,” “The Fosters,” “Shadowhunters,” and “Timeless.” With engaging storylines and amazing actors, they will give you exactly the break and escape from reality that you need.
